The Herbst® is a fixed, mandible-advancing appliance that allows skeletal and dental changes to occur. Spacers are used to adjust the A/P. The patient has a range of vertical and lateral movement making it reasonably comfortable after a brief adjustment period. The Herbst can be a good treatment alternative for patients who struggle to wear removable appliances.
